Glossary
Term / Acronym | Unabridged | Explanation |
---|---|---|
API | Application Programming Interface | Method for computer systems to exchange data using defined standards and formats. |
API Consumer | An individual from an organisation that is using the APIs to create a digital experience, e.g. a developer or technical resource. | |
ASAP | As Soon as Possible | In the context of the Assurance API, the default value when reserving an appointment. |
BBIP | Baseband IP | A Chorus copper product enabling service providers to provide voice service from their own exchange-based equipment using Chorus ISAMS and splitters in cabinets or exchanges. Baseband IP provides a copper delivery to the end user premises and a SIP bitstream interface to the RSP. |
CIR | Committed Information Rate | Rate of data transfer committed as a minimum to end users. |
CRQ | Change Request | In the context of the Assurance API, a CRQ is a planned Chorus event or outage. |
CRT | Chorus Regional Transport | Fibre-based transport service connection between the POIs in any two UFB Candidate Areas. For the purposes of this document, CRT is the band width managed variant only (not the dark fibre variant). |
DFAS | Direct Fibre Access Service | A main optical fibre distribution frame (MOFDF) at an exchange fibre that terminates on a connector beyond the external termination point (ETP) at an end userโs premises. |
DSL | Digital Subscriber Line | A family of communications technologies allowing high-speed data over existing copper-based access networks in the local loop. |
FRE | Fault Related Event | In the context of the Assurance API, a FRE is a type of unplanned event, impacting multiple users. This may be caused, for example by damage to Chorus network equipment. |
GLID | Global Identifier | The unique identifier used for diagnostic sessions. |
ICABS | Intra Candidate Area Backhaul Service | A dark fibre or bandwidth managed service which enables RSPs to connect a customer in one exchange area to their equipment located in another exchange area within the same candidate (UFB) area. Often used to extend DFAS, BFAS, CRT past the exchange these services terminate. |
INC | Incident | A type of unplanned event. |
JSON | Java Script Object Notation | An open-standard file format that uses human-readable text to transmit data objects. |
NGA | Next Generation Access | A fibre product. |
OLT | Optical Line Terminator | A GPON Access Node that provides for the delivery of NGA services. |
ONT | Optical Network Terminal | General term for a specialised piece of network equipment that terminates a single dark fibre and is located at the end user premises for fibre services. |
PLSAM | POTS Line Service Area Master (See also SAM) | The unique address identifier used for Chorus copper products. |
PON | Passive Optical Network | A line consisting of optical fibres spliced end-to-end possibly via a splitter. |
RAML | Restful API Modelling Language | The language used to document API designs. |
RGW | Residential Gateway | Router capability that provides user connectivity via LAN ports (that may be 1Gand/or 10G), Wi-Fi (that may operate at 2.4GHz, 5GHz) and supports WAN connectivity towards the RSPs. |
RSP | Retail Service Provider | A business/ organisation that is a reseller of Chorus fibre products. |
SAM | Service Area Master (See also PLSAM) | The unique address identifier used for Chorus copper products. |
Sub-entity | Entity within a customer organisation that is responsible for managing a subset of their services, and to which Chorus is required to provide the service impact notifications. | |
TLC | Telecom Location Code | Unique address identifier used in Chorus fibre systems. Contains nine numeric characters. |
URI | Uniform Resource Identifiers | REST-based Web services are organised into resources. A resource is a chunk of related information, such as a user profile, a collection of updates (activities), or a global user ID (GUID). Each resource is identified by one or more Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs). |
VDSL | Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line | A digital subscriber line (DSL) technology providing faster data transmission over a single flat untwisted or twisted pair of copper wires. |
