HarperCollins Publishers API usage Terms and Conditions

Dated January 1, 2017

General Terms

By using any of HarperCollins Publishers 'application programming interfaces' (the 'HCP APIs'), you agree to be bound by, and to use the HCP APIs in accordance with, these Terms of Use, the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy located at www.harpercollins.com, and any additional terms and conditions that may apply to the HCP APIs or to individual HCP APIs (all of which are deemed part of these Terms of Use). In the event of any conflict between such Terms of Use and these Terms of Use, these Terms of Use will govern.

HarperCollins Publishers (“HCP” or “we”) reserve the right to change these Terms of Use or to impose new conditions on your use of the HCP APIs from time to time, in which case we will post the revised Terms of Use on this website and update the “Last Updated” date to reflect the date of the changes. It is therefore important that you review this page often to ensure that you are aware of all changes. By continuing to use the HCP APIs after we post any such changes, you accept the Terms of Use, as modified.

We also reserve the right to deny access to the HCP APIs and/or to revoke the rights to use such HCP APIs granted hereunder, to anyone who violates these Terms of Use.

Rights and Restrictions

The HCP APIs are licensed to you solely for your personal, noncommercial use, and your use of the HCP APIs is at all times subject to these Terms of Use, including the attribution requirements set forth below. Per best security practice, when registering for an HCP API, the application you are registering will be provided a 'ClientID' and 'Client Secret' (aka 'credentials') used to generate a SAML token required to access the HC API by any application or service that you create or develop and such API SAML token must accompany all information requests coming from your application or service. Such application must comply with requirements of the HCP API Registration Process, which are explained in more detail below. The Client ID and Client Secret you receive are unique to you for the sole purpose of generating a SAML token which expires periodically and Client ID and Client Secret may not be transferred or assigned to any other person or entity without our consent.

The HCP APIs, and all the information, materials, content and data in and all the output of the HCP APIs, are the property of HCP and/or our affiliates or licensors, and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved by HCP. Subject to these Terms of Use, you may retain rights in and to any software or content developed by you prior to or independent of the HCP APIs and that does not incorporate the HCP APIs or any portion thereof.

You must abide by any request volumes or Service level agreements (SLA's) that we, in our sole discretion, may place on the use of a HCP API. You may not use the HCP APIs in a manner that exceeds such request volume, constitutes excessive or abusive usage, or otherwise fails to comply or is inconsistent with any terms that HCP may impose on the use of a HCP API, in each case as determined by us, in our sole discretion.

You agree not to use the HCP APIs for any commercial purpose or in any product or service that competes with HCP or its products or services. For example, you agree not to sell any application or service built using a HCP API and you agree not to sell or charge a fee for any HCP materials, content or data that may be included in an application or service containing a HCP API.

You may not use the HCP APIs, or the information, content, materials or data in or output of the HCP APIs, in a manner or in connection with a service that violates any laws or regulations, violates or infringes the rights of, or causes injury to, any person or entity or collects personal information from users of your service without appropriate notice and consent.

You agree not to sell, lease, share, transfer, or sublicense the HCP APIs, any API, Client ID and/or Client Secret or HarperCollins Publishers Developer Portal usernames and/or passwords.

Attribution Requirements

All of your uses, applications and services that incorporate or use a HCP API must include the applicable HCP API logo and such logo must appear along with any HCP API information, content, material, data or output that you may display. In addition, you must keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices contained within the HCP APIs. You may not use the HCP API logo or the information, content, material, data in or output from a HCP API in a way that implies or suggests that HCP promotes, endorses or sponsors you, your application or service, any third party, or any content, product or service of you or any third party.

HCP APIs Registration Process

At http://developer.harpercollins.com you can register for access to HC APIs, which will require that you enter the name of the application that will use the HC API. Successful registration will display a separate Client ID and Client Secret. For a subsequent application to register the same HCP APIs (e.g., web application, vs. mobile application, etc.). This registration will require you to provide personally identifiable information such as your email address and a user name to request an HC API. You agree to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by the registration form. You agree not to use any script, software, or other automated methods of applying for or creating or attempting to create multiple API credentials. If we have reasonable grounds to suspect that your registration contains information that is untrue, inaccurate, or incomplete, or your form otherwise does not comply with these Terms of Use, we have the right to suspend or terminate your account and refuse you any and all current or future use of, or access to, the HCP APIs (or any portion thereof). Our use of any personally identifiable information you provide to us as part of the registration process is governed by the terms of our Privacy Policy.

Support

You understand that we have no obligation to provide technical or other support for the HCP APIs. We do, however, reserve the right at all times, in our sole discretion, to offer support for the HCP APIs. If we elect to provide you with support for the HCP APIs, we may, in our sole discretion, change, suspend, discontinue or terminate such support and/or any aspect of such support at any time without notice or liability to you.

Fees

HCP reserves the right to, and may, in its sole discretion, decide, to charge fees for use of, or access to, the HCP APIs or any portion thereof. If HCP decides to charge a fee for use of or access to the HCP APIs, such fees will be disclosed to you prior to HCP charging such fees to you.

Modifications to, or Discontinuation of, the HCP APIs

We reserve the right at any time and from time to time to modify, deprecate or discontinue (temporarily or permanently) the HCP APIs, any individual HCP API, or any portion thereof, without notice or liability to you. We also may impose limits on certain features and services or restrict your access to parts or all of the HCP APIs without notice or liability to you.

Suspension and Termination of Access

You agree that, in our sole discretion, we may suspend or terminate your API credentials, your account (or any part thereof) and/or your use of any HCP APIs, or any portion thereof, at any time, for any reason, without notice to you. You agree that we will not be liable to you or any third-party for any suspension or termination of your API key(s), account (or any part thereof) or use of any HCP APIs or any portion thereof. In the event that we suspend or terminate your access to and/or use of any credentials, account or any HCP APIs, you will continue to be bound by the Terms of Use that were in effect as of the date of your suspension or termination.

The good news is there are steps girls can take to build their confidence—not by twisting themselves into knots, but by gaining new mental tools and embracing their authentic selves. I wish I had this book when I was a girl—and I’m really glad today’s girls have it now.” —Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and founder of Lean In and Option B^K^K“This is the book every girl needs to make her dreams come true.” —Laurie Hernandez, US Olympic gold medalist and bestselling author of I GOT THIS: TO GOLD AND BEYOND^K^K“An essential read for every girl in her tween years. This book encourages girls to take action despite unhelpful thinking patterns, to be unafraid of failure, and to challenge the worries that hold so many girls back. Presented in a relatable and engaging manner, it also provides excellent guidance on navigating the often judgmental and provoking world of social media. Girls will develop a much deeper understanding of what it means to be themselves and express that confidently. I am inspired by what the authors have done in offering such a tremendous guidebook that girls will reference time and time again in their journey to forming a solid, confident self.” —Dr. Bonnie Zucker, licensed psychologist and author of ANXIETY-FREE KIDS: AN INTERACTIVE GUIDE FOR PARENTS AND CHILDREN^K^K“If you’ve ever wished you had the courage to say what you really think, or do the thing that scares you, this is the book for you! I learned that lesson on the ice, playing hockey. I didn’t always fit in, but I came to embrace that, and it gave me confidence. This book can help every girl flip that switch in her head, so she can feel the awesomeness and confidence that comes from being unique.” —Hilary Knight, Olympic silver medalist and member of the US women’s national ice hockey team^K^K“Wow!!! I love love love this book for girls. Every single day I work with girls who suffer so much because they don’t have the tools The Confidence Code for Girls provides. It gives tweens tips and tools to manage everything from stress to self-doubt to sticky social situations. Adults will appreciate the book's focus on empowerment and concrete action steps, and girls will love the humor, stories and fun activities. Whether you're a parent or an educator, this is an invaluable resource.” —Phyllis L. Fagell, school counselor, author, and contributor to the Washington Post’s On Parenting section",

In addition to her work on women’s issues, Katty has covered the Clinton administration sex scandal, four presidential elections, and the wars in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. She was at the Pentagon just twenty minutes after a hijacked plane flew into the building on 9/11—one of her most vivid journalistic memories is of interviewing soldiers still visibly shaking from the attack. Katty grew up all over the Middle East, where her father was posted as a British diplomat. She studied modern languages at Oxford and is a fluent French and Italian speaker with some “rusty Japanese.” Katty juggles her journalism with raising four children with her husband, a consultant.
